FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – The YMCA of Western Monmouth County has named Sharon Halpin as its interim president and chief executive officer. Her appointment was effective on Nov. 27.
Halpin was selected by the YMCA Board of Directors and will succeed Cynthia Joy, who stepped down on Nov. 22, according to a press release.
“With Sharon’s 38 years of service to the Y and passion toward the Y’s mission, we feel confident the YMCA of Western Monmouth County will have fantastic leadership,” said Stacey DeAlmeida, YMCA board chair.
Halpin is a lifelong resident of New Jersey. She attended Wittenberg University and has made her home in Middletown for more than 40 years, according to the press release.
She began her YMCA career at the Community YMCA in eastern Monmouth County as an instructor in fitness and aquatics. She eventually served as the Community YMCA’s director of human resources from 1979 to 2000.
Halpin joined the YMCA of Western Monmouth County in 2000 as the organization’s director of operations. She has served as vice president of human resources and risk management since 2007, according to the press release.
“I look forward to not only continuing our Y’s long-standing commitment to strengthen the communities of Mercer, Middlesex and Monmouth counties, but also expanding our opportunities, community partnerships and outreach efforts,” Halpin said.
