JACKSON – A paper street that municipal officials said was never going to be developed has been vacated by Jackson.
A paper street is a legal street that has been laid out in a development plan, but not constructed.
During their final meeting of 2017, members of the Township Council eliminated Roosevelt Street, which was designated as being north of West Commodore Boulevard between Diamond Road and Broadway Avenue.
An ordinance vacating all of the right, title and interest of Jackson in the entire length of Roosevelt Street was unanimously adopted by the council on Dec. 26. The ordinance states that the public will not be adversely affected by the vacation of the township’s interest in the entire length of the street.
Councilman Robert Nixon said Roosevelt Street “was never an active street, it was a paper street, it has been on the map for years and years and the town was never going to develop it.”
Council President Ken Bressi said Roosevelt Street divided properties that could not be used and landlocked those properties.
