Freehold Township officials establish salaries for 2018

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP – An ordinance establishing the salary ranges of municipal employees and elected officials in Freehold Township for 2018 has been adopted by the Township Committee.

Officials took the action on Dec. 19 and the ordinance relates to compensation for 2018. The figures represent the range for a position; not the exact salary that an individual who currently holds a position in the township is paid.

Among full-time unclassified offices and positions, the municipal administrator will receive a minimum salary of $75,000 and a maximum salary of $220,000; the director of finance/chief financial officer and township engineer will each receive a minimum salary of $60,000 and a maximum salary of $210,000; and a municipal department head and deputy municipal administrator will receive a minimum salary of $50,000 with the municipal department head receiving a maximum salary of $190,000 and the deputy municipal administrator receiving a maximum salary of $165,000, according to the ordinance.

The municipal court director, tax assessor, research scientist and tax collector/tax search officer will each receive a minimum salary of $40,000, according to the ordinance. The municipal court director and tax assessor will each receive a maximum salary of $140,000, the research scientist will receive a maximum salary of $136,000 and the tax collector/tax search officer will receive a maximum salary of $135,000.

The personnel officer, municipal clerk and deputy tax assessor will each receive a minimum salary of $35,000; the personnel officer will receive a maximum salary of $125,000, the municipal clerk will receive a maximum salary of $115,000 and the deputy tax assessor will receive a maximum salary of $90,000.

The public information officer and the confidential aide will each receive a minimum salary of $26,500; the public information officer will receive a maximum salary of $110,000 and the confidential aide will receive a maximum salary of $95,125. The deputy municipal clerk and a board/commission secretary will each receive a minimum salary of $25,500 and a maximum salary of $105,000.

Among part-time unclassified offices and positions, the municipal court judge will receive a minimum salary of $65,000 and a maximum salary of $120,000; the municipal prosecutor will receive a minimum salary of $55,000 and maximum salary of $95,000; the public defender will receive a minimum salary of $15,000 and a maximum salary of $50,000.

Regarding elected officials, a Township Committee member may receive a minimum salary of $8,000 and a maximum salary of $12,000. The mayor, who is an equal member of the governing body and is selected each year by his or her fellow committee members, may receive a minimum salary of $9,000 and a maximum salary of $13,000, according to the ordinance.

For full-time classified offices and positions, according to the ordinance, the assistant director of finance, construction official, director of information technology, director of public works, health officer, management information systems specialist, municipal parks superintendent/superintendent of recreation, principal accountant and sewer superintendent/water superintendent will each receive a minimum salary of $50,000 and a maximum salary of $190,000.

According to the ordinance, the assistant municipal parks superintendent/assistant superintendent of recreation, assistant sewer superintendent/assistant water superintendent, building subcode official/code enforcement officer/zoning officer, municipal court administrator, public works superintendent, research scientist, senior planner and supervising mechanic will each receive a minimum salary of $40,000 and a maximum salary of $140,000.

In the Freehold Township Police Department, the police chief will receive a minimum salary of $136,000 and a maximum salary of $200,000; a police captain will receive a minimum salary of $123,000 and a maximum salary of $190,000; a police lieutenant will receive a minimum salary of $111,000 and a maximum salary of $150,000; a senior sergeant will receive a minimum salary of $100,455 and a maximum salary of $140,000; a junior sergeant will receive a minimum salary of $98,000 and a maximum salary of $135,000; and a patrolman will receive a minimum salary of $33,000 and a maximum salary of $130,000.
