Howell council reorganizes for 2018

HOWELL – The members of the Howell Township Council re-elected Councilman Robert Nicastro to serve as deputy mayor when the governing body’s 2018 reorganization meeting was held on Jan. 2.

Mayor Theresa Berger, Councilman Bob Walsh, Councilwoman Pauline Smith and Councilwoman Evelyn O’Donnell voted to name Nicastro deputy mayor. Nicastro abstained from the vote.

After being sworn in as deputy mayor by Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden, Nicastro simply thanked his fellow council members and the residents who turned out to see the municipal government kick off a new year of activity.

“Thank you everyone, I just wish everybody a happy new year and I look forward to 2018. I am sure there will be a lot of great things happening,” Nicastro said.

In other business, Walsh was named liaison to the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders. Berger, Nicastro, Smith and O’Donnell voted in favor of the appointment, while Walsh jokingly voted no on the motion to name him as the township’s representative to the county’s governing body.

Council members named Paul Schneider, Nicastro, Police Chief Andrew Kudrick and Paul Seaman to the Planning Board. John Turk was appointed to the Zoning Board of Adjustment for a four-year term. Jim Moretti and Jose Orozco were named as alternate members to the zoning board.
