Say no to subsidy for PSE&G nuclear plants

PSEG’s request for a $320 million subsidy to prop up its nuclear plants should be rejected. We should instead hasten the arrival of solar and wind to be our source of power.

We should not throw a lifeline to a dying technology that creates tons of waste that lasts for centuries. Every time you make toast with nuclear power, you create radioactive waste that will be around for 10,000 years. Yet, PSEG wants to prolong the life of reactors that are exceeding their originally scheduled life.

Renewables by contrast create no waste, pollution or greenhouse gases. As it gains popularity, its cost keeps going down. The usual knock against renewables is that they require a subsidy. So why subsidize nuclear? If market forces require the end of nuclear, so be it.
