Local and national environmental issues will be discussed when the 2018 Science Mondays Series kicks off Jan. 22 at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft.

The free monthly series, which is co-sponsored by the Jersey Shore Sierra Club and the Brookdale Environmental Club, begins at 6:30 p.m. this coming Monday with a program titled “Challenges to Safeguarding New Jersey’s Environment.” That issue will be spearheaded by Jeff Tittel.

Tittel, who is the director of the New Jersey Sierra Club for the last 19 years, is also a member of Gov.-elect Phil Murphy’s Transition Team for Environment and Energy. He plans to discuss the Garden State’s unique environmental challenges and steps being taken to address them.

The series continues on Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m. with a program titled “The Truth About Climate Research,” which will be sponsored by Steve and Pat Miller. The Millers, who completed an intensive training program with Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project in Denver in 2017, plan to discuss the current and future impacts of global climate change.

The series will conclude on March 26 at 6:30 p.m. with a program titled “Supporting Environmental Science,” that will discussed by Claire Antonucci.

Antonucci, the executive director and director of education for the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium, will discuss the consortium’s efforts to support local teachers by providing up-to-date facts and lesson plans on environmental topics.

All talks are held in Brookdale’s Warner Student Life Center, 765 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft. Parking is in lots 6 and 7. For more information, call732-224-2871 or email Patricia Dillon at pdillon@brookdalecc.edu.
