Patil said it was an honor to be selected as council president.

“We have a proud community of hard working people, we have a community with an excellent school system and our culture and diversity makes us very strong,” he said. “The Edison council looks forward to work with Mayor [Thomas] Lankey and his administration. Teamwork and cooperation is the key to our success.”

Patil said the council has a lot of work ahead.

“We may need to make hard decisions to bring in good changes and I am confident that together we can make it happen,” he said.

Patil said he looks forward to working with Lankey and his administration to promote a business friendly town, to improve job growth and bring in new revenue to offset increased expenses, and look for shared services with the school district and neighboring towns to reduce municipal spending.

He said officials will continue the road paving program, work on the new community center, improve recreation facilities, infrastructure and look at green initiatives for cost savings and potential revenue.

At the reorganization meeting, Robert Diehl, Alvaro Gomez and Samip “Sam” Joshi were sworn in to the three, four-year terms seats that they won during the November election.

Diehl is serving his fifth term, Gomez is serving his third term and Joshi is serving his first term on council.

Lankey was sworn in for his second term as mayor.
