HOWELL – Members of the public will have a chance to comment on a company’s plan to establish a solid waste transfer station in Howell during a meeting to be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 25 in the municipal building, Route 9.
The meeting will be conducted by the Monmouth County Solid Waste Advisory Council.
Resource Engineering has proposed the construction of a solid waste transfer station at the corner of Route 547 (Lakewood-Farmingdale Road) and Randolph Road.
The facility would include a 25,000-square-foot main building, an 8,000-square-foot maintenance garage, a scale house and an office building, according to plans that were previously placed before the public.
Resource Engineering is proposing to accept 1,500 tons per day of bulky cleanup debris and bulky construction debris for sorting, removal of recyclable materials and subsequent transfer to an out-of-state facility for final disposal.
The applicant has indicated it would improve the intersection of Route 547 and Randolph Road by installing a traffic signal at the intersection. The Howell Township Council has gone on record with its opposition to the facility.
