MILLSTONE – A new president will lead the Millstone Township K-8 School District Board of Education during 2018, while the board member who served as vice president during 2017 will remain in that position.

The board held its annual reorganization meeting on Jan. 3 and the three winning candidates from the Nov. 7 election – incumbents Cynthia Bailey and Melissa Riviello and newcomer Peter Bonafide  – were sworn in to begin serving three-year terms. Bailey joined the board in 2014 and Riviello joined the board in 2013.

The board oversees the operation of the Millstone Township Primary School, the Millstone Township Elementary School and the Millstone Township Middle School.

After all of the members were seated, the board held elections for the positions of president and vice president.

David DePinho was nominated to serve as president for 2018 and was elected in a unanimous vote. DePinho joined the board in 2009.

Riviello, who served as vice president in 2017, was nominated to serve as vice president for 2018 and was elected in a unanimous vote.

No other board members were nominated for either position.

Board member Amy Jacobson was unanimously appointed to continue to serve as the panel’s delegate to the New Jersey School Boards Association for 2018.

Board member Billy Hanson was unanimously appointed to continue to serve as Millstone’s representative to the Upper Freehold Regional School District Board of Education.

Because Millstone does not have a high school for students in grades nine through 12, the district has a send-receive relationship with Upper Freehold Regional which allows students of high school age in Millstone to attend Allentown High School. A representative from Millstone sits on the regional board and votes on matters that concern the high school.
