SPOTSWOOD – Councilwoman Margaret Drozd has been unanimously elected by her fellow members of the Spotswood Borough Council to serve as council president for 2018.
Drozd was tapped for the position when the council held its reorganization meeting on Jan. 3 at the municipal building.
“I am very energized. I am so happy to be in the position because although you work with the power of the council, the council president can envision what needs to be done and works closely with the mayor to set the agenda,” Drozd said.
“I am very enthusiastic and really looking forward to 2018. Hopefully it is going to be the year of the woman, like what has been happening at the national stage,” she said.
Councilman Ted Ricci, who served as council president during 2017, said, “I think Councilwoman Drozd is absolutely qualified to assume the council presidency, and between Councilman Curt Stollen and Mayor Edward Seely, both of whom are former council presidents, and myself, we will offer any assistance she might need,” Ricci said.
“The council and the mayor are here to support her for the upcoming year. I hope she enjoys the challenges of the coming year as much as I enjoyed them last year,” he said.
In other news, the council approved contracts for David Samuel of CME Associates as borough engineer and Patrick Diegnan Jr. as borough attorney.
As appointed by Seely, the council approved Bob Smith & Associates LLC as the municipal prosecutor firm effective Jan. 1-Dec. 31, with an annual compensation of $13,500, according to the council agenda.
The council approved the appointment of the firm Roselli & Roselli as municipal public defender for the borough, as appointed by Seely. The term is effective Jan. 1-Dec. 31, with an annual compensation of $2,400, according to the council agenda.
