Edison man arrested in burglary

WOODBRIDGE — Police charged a 37-year-old Edison man for allegedly breaking into a motor vehicle at a Forrest Street residence in the Iselin section of the township.

On Sept. 9 at approximately 6 a.m., police were dispatched to the residence on a report of a burglary into a motor vehicle in progress, according to Police Capt. Roy Hoppock.

Responding officers were advised that the homeowner and another family member had apprehended the individual and were holding him for police.

An initial investigation revealed the suspect had entered the victim’s vehicle and when the victim confronted the suspect, he attempted to run away, Hoppock said.

Police found loose change on the suspect taken from the victim’s vehicle. The suspect also had another item on him from an unknown victim.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect had allegedly broken a glass window of a basement suite in an office building on Route 27 in Iselin.

Police charged the suspect with two counts of burglary, one count of criminal mischief, one count of theft by unlawful taking or disposition and one count of receiving stolen property.

The suspect was processed and released on his own recognizance.
