Manalapan dominant on mats against Marlboro

Old Bridge High School’s Anthony Allegro (RIGHT) has some difficulty with Manalapan High School’s Matt Mustillo in a 145-pound match in the first round of the state sectional Central Jersey Group 5 wrestling tournament held at Manalapan High School, Monday, Feb. 6, 2017. The Manalapan High School wrestling team coasted past its rival, Marlboro High School, 61-6, on Jan. 17 in Manalapan.

The Braves recorded five pins during the meet en route to improving to 12-2 on the season.

Scoring a fall to lead Manalapan were Colby Glushko at 113 pounds, AJ Sortino at 120, Matt Benedetti at 160, Anthony Jomo at 182 and Chadd Jinks at 195.

James Grande at 132 pounds and 138-pounder Ryan McCoy each delivered a major decision, while Anthony Coposky won his 145-pound match by a technical fall. Calvin Burke at 106 and 170-pounder Andrew Burstyn were winners by decision.

Marlboro received victories from Zachary Sperling at 152 and Adam Mirza at heavyweight, who each won by a decision.

The Braves wrestled at Ocean Township High School on Jan. 22 and will head north to face North Bergen High School on Jan. 27.

Marlboro, which fell to 0-6 after the loss to Manalapan, will host Middletown High School South on Jan. 24 at 5:30 p.m. The Mustangs will travel to Hunterdon County on Jan. 25 to wrestle one of the state’s perennial powers, Delaware Valley Regional High School, at 5:30 p.m.
