I’ve been in the Pilates industry for over 16 years. While Pilates is more widespread than ever, few people realize how beneficial it is to the SPECIAL POPULATIONS: seniors, the overweight, postpartum and young athlete. If you’ve never been to a Pilates studio you’ve not experienced the bliss of moving your legs through the air assisted with spring or pulleys. You’ve not likely been able to roll up and down without strain on your neck and lower back. With a special bar attached to springs you can roll slowly down and up off the floor without any strain at all, Yes! The benefits? Great mobility for your vertebra and a wonderful abdominal engagement that feels right and not forced.

Pilates is all about postural health, strength, great mobility as well as stability. When we are overweight we tend to shy away from group classes or exercises which are uncomfortable. In a fully equipped Pilates studio we isolate bones and muscles making movement pleasant, interesting and very invigorating. As we age our balance is compromised and we need to focus on the smaller, more local muscle groups giving our gait support and creating ease of movement for everyday life.
