Woodbridge makes arrest in convenience store robbery

WOODBRIDGE — Police charged a 28-year-old township man last week with allegedly robbing the Quick Chek on Rahway Avenue in June.

The incident occurred at 11:21 p.m. on June 10, according to Police Capt. Roy Hoppock.

As the victim was scanning the item the suspect brought to the counter, the suspect allegedly sprayed the victim in the face with some type of pepper spray and reached in the register and removed an unknown amount of cash. The suspect then fled on foot.

After further investigation, Woodbridge police detectives were able to identify the individual. An arrest warrant was issued and after numerous attempts to locate the individual, police were able to locate the suspect on Sept. 29 at his residence.

As police detectives approached the residence, the defendant allegedly jumped out the second floor window and fled on foot. Detectives and patrol units surrounded the area and the defendant was subsequently arrested.

The suspect was charged with one count of robbery, one count of aggravated assault, one count of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and one count of resisting arrest.

The suspect was processed, no bail was set, and he was transported to the Middlesex County Correctional Facility in North Brunswick.
