EDISON — Fire officials are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire that has displaced more than a dozen tenants after a fire swept through the Woodedge Apartment building complex.
The three-alarm fire occurred at 6 a.m. on Jan. 24, according to Fire Capt. Andy Toth, the town’s emergency management coordinator.
The fire, which apparently began in a crawl space, forced more than a dozen tenants and pets to safely evacuate their units as firefighters from Edison and neighboring towns brought the fire under control, he said.
Two of the building’s 10 apartments were permanently damaged by smoke and flames. The other eight units sustained less damage and are temporarily uninhabitable.
The township is working with Middlesex County’s Office of Emergency Management and the American Red Cross to secure temporary housing for the displaced tenants, Toth said.
