Coastal Habitat for Humanity and the Boys & Girls Clubs of
Monmouth County recently announced plans to honor Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy through a series of collaborative projects over the next year.

The year-long collaboration kicked off with participation in an MLK Day of Service project on Jan. 15, one of numerous statewide activities prompted by Gov. Phil Murphy and members of his transition team to commemorate the legacy of Dr. King.

“Having youth from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County come to Coastal Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore to envision and construct our mission wall was a wonderful experience for the youth but equally the staff of both agencies and numerous volunteers from the local community,” said Heather Schulze, Executive Director of Coastal Habitat for Humanity. “The
mission wall will deliver the message of work being done in our local communities towards Dr. King’s vision of equal access, equality and opportunity for all.”

“The partnership with Coastal Habitat for Humanity provides our Club members with the opportunity to become part of Martin Luther King, Jr’s vision,” said  Douglas Eagles, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County. “All too often our kids are overlooked, with the assumption that they don’t have anything to contribute. In reality, their potential to impact the world is endless.”

“This partnership is one that epitomizes the teachings of Dr. King; the value of all peoples, the value of community and the need to have and live a dream. I am excited about the work this year with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County and for what we can accomplish together in the years to come,’ said Randy Bishop, Board President of Coastal Habitat for Humanity.

Since its founding in 1994, Coastal Habitat for Humanity’s goal is to  build a world where everyone has a decent place to live, according to the organization.

An affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, Coastal Habitat has constructed 20 singlefamily homes, impacted over 1000 local lives, repaired more than 190 properties, and assisted more than 50 superstorm Sandy-impacted families in southern coastal Monmouth County, according to the organization. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County, according to the organization, empowers all young people—especially those who need us most—to
reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. Through day care, education,
nutritional and athletic programs, and the arts, the Club provides vital services to hundreds of Monmouth
County children and their families every day. Learn more at www.bgcmonmouth.org.
