Monmouth County to purchase open space in two towns

Small parcels of land will be added to a pair of parks in western Monmouth County following action that was taken by the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders.

First, the freeholders authorized the acquisition of a 1-acre parcel in Millstone Township that is known as the Estate of Sirabella property. The land at 885 Perrineville Road will be added to Perrineville Lake Park. A resolution passed by the freeholders states that the purchase price for the land is expected to be $150,000.

Second, the freeholders authorized the acquisition of a 1.75-acre parcel in Upper Freehold Township that is known as the Estate of Hedgecoth property. The land at 920 Route 537 will be added to Crosswicks Creek Park. A resolution passed by the freeholders states that the purchase price for the land is expected to be $245,000.

The funds for both purchases will come from the Monmouth County Open Space, Recreation, Floodplain Protection, Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund. Both purchases were recommended to the freeholders by the Monmouth County Board of Recreation Commissioners.

The freeholders said the properties are being purchased for county open space preservation, natural resources conservation and public park and recreation purposes.
