Music notes

“A History of Music Celebration” is a multi-media experience that will take audience members on a musical journey through black history in recognition of Black History Month, which is celebrated during February.

“A History of Music Celebration” will be held on Feb. 3 at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan. All are welcome to attend this free event.

Doors will open at noon and the performance will begin at 1 p.m. Seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, according to a press release.

Historian Thelma Armstrong will narrate the event, taking the audience through an historical timeline accented by music. Performances will include music and song from African drums to spirituals, and from jazz to rhythm and blues and reggae.

Artists sharing their talent will include African drummer Tyrone Laws, steel drums by Highlite Vibes (reggae, soca and calypso), Community Refuge Church Gospel Choir and rhythm and blues band Crown Jules featuring Jules Drucker and Lenny Harold. A special guest, opera and classical singer Courteney Wilds (who is known as The Wild Diva), will also perform, according to the press release.
