Purim Carnival in Rumson on Feb. 25

 

The celebration of Purim will be featured when the Purim Carnival is held on Feb. 25 at the Congregation B’nai Israel, which is located at  171 Ridge Road in Rumson.

The carnival run from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The event will include carnival
games and prizes, inflatables, Face Painting, Win a Goldfish, Spin Art, food, popcorn, cotton candy, Sno-Cones and a Haman Pinata. A  Jr. Jumpy inflatable will be on site, too. A gift auction will also be held for both adults and children.

The carnival is open to the public. General Admission is free. Tickets for games and gift auction may be purchased at the event.

Purim, a festival recorded in the Book of Esther, commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people living in the ancient Persian Empire from a plot by Haman, an evil ruler, to destroy them. Purim is characterized by a public recitation of the Book of Esther which tells the story Purim, giving gifts of food and drink, giving charity to the poor and a celebratory meal. Other customs include the wearing of masks and costumes.
