Edison woman fatally injured during alleged DWI crash

Officials charged a woman with driving while intoxicated after a crash killed one of her passengers.

Ashley Gergits, 20, of Edison, was driving a 2015 Honda CRV with three passengers when she crashed into a 2012 Subaru Legacy driven by a 31-year-old male from Central Valley, New York, on Route 27 near River Road in Highland Park just prior to midnight on Feb. 16, according to a statement provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Stephen Rizco of the Highland Park Police Department.

Jenna Adamousky, 21, of Edison, was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash.

The two other passengers, 20- and 21-year old males, both of Highland Park, were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for their injuries.

The driver of the Subaru was also taken to RWJUH.

The preliminary investigation determined that Gergits, while driving south on Route 27, allegedly struck a bridge abutment, bounced off and crashed into the Subaru, which was stopped at a red light at the intersection of River Road, officials said.

Gergits was only charged with driving while intoxicated, as of press time.
