However, Monroe struck back with six goals in the second period and four goals in the third to take the victory.

Freshman David Kish and sophomore Justin Greene each scored a goal for Old Bridge.

Monroe moved on to defeated Saint Joseph High School of Metuchen, 10-0, in the semifinals and Colonia High School, 3-1, in the championship game to earn the GMC Cup crown.

The loss dropped the Knights’ record to 7-11-3 on the season.

Old Bridge, seeded 19th in the NJSIAA Public A tournament, had a first-round matchup in the state tournament scheduled against 14th-seeded Howell High School on Feb. 20. The winner of that matchup moved on to face No. 3-seed Bridgewater-Raritan High School on Feb. 23.
