For the fourth consecutive year, the Monmouth County Library is sponsoring Makers
Day, the statewide initiative that celebrates making and maker culture for New Jersey residents by exploring new and interesting community-wide education, entrepreneurship and hands-on learning experiences.

The daylong celebration for the county library system, including all 13 branches, will be held at library headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan, from noon to 4 p.m. March 10, according to a press release.

Makers Day, which last year drew more than 1,000 guests to the library, began in Piscataway and is organized by Doug Baldwin, the emerging technologies librarian at the Piscataway Public Library.

The Monmouth County library has been part of Makers Day since its inception. Statewide, events are featured at more than 300 participating locations, are presented in each of the 21 counties, and attract almost 100,000 guests for the one-day event, according to the press release.

At the Manalapan headquarters, more than 30 companies, organizations and nonprofit groups have signed on to present hands-on technology, building and creative activities, demonstrations, exhibits and interactive experiences aimed at individuals of all ages.

“This is one more wonderful program presented by our county library system,” said Monmouth County Freeholder Deputy Director Lillian G. Burry, liaison to the library system. “It offers such a broad range of activities and appeal, attracts people of all ages and explores new and interesting opportunities for community-wide education, and hands-on learning experiences.”

Among the activities planned for the Manalapan site are programs by the Deep Cut Bonsai Society, woodworking by the Garden State Marquetry Club, geocaching with Rachel Casey, My A to Z rug with educator Danna Gal, Robotic Soccer with Plum Crazy Underwater Robotics and Rogue Rovers Underwater Robotics with students from High Technology High School.

Also scheduled for the afternoon are science lab creations from Super Science for Kids, Makey, an invention building site, Master Gardeners, motorized LEGO projects, and India Block printing with Seema Moondra. For additional information, visit www.monmouthcountylib.org
