Marlboro Police Officer Donna Gonzalez saved my husband’s life. On the night of Feb. 17, my husband, who is 47 years old, was shoveling snow. He came inside complaining of a pain by his neck.

I waited about 20 minutes and the pain remained and possibly worsened, so I called 911, during a snow storm.

Officer Gonzalez arrived within minutes and witnessed my husband have a massive heart attack in front of us. She quickly got her equipment and performed CPR and shocked him multiple times while I watched in horror. The EMTs arrived minutes later and got him to Bayshore Hospital in Holmdel just as quickly.

Within a few hours, I realized my husband’s main artery was 100 percent blocked and a stent was put in his heart through a fairly quick procedure at the hospital.

The doctor told me they call it the widowmaker and had Officer Gonzalez not performed CPR and shocked him when she did, he would not be here today. She was courteous, professional, compassionate, selfless and she saved my husband’s life. We will forever be in her debt.

The Morganville EMTs who arrived at our house were as much to thank. They quickly got my husband out of the house and to the closest hospital that performed the procedure he needed. We will also forever be indebted to them.

It is absolutely amazing they volunteer their time to save people’s lives. I cannot even comprehend how selfless of a person you must be to do this. They have families of their own. It was a Saturday night and it was snowing. They left their homes and families to go out and save a stranger.

This is an amazing town with even more amazing people living here.
