Fraidy Reiss, founder and leader of Unchained At Last, will speak at 10:15 a.m. on March 11 at Congregation Beth Ohr, 70 Route 516, Old Bridge.

At age 19, Reiss was forced into an arranged marriage with a man she hardly knew, a husband who turned out to be violent. At 27 she defied her husband and became the first person in her family to go to college, graduating from Rutgers University as valedictorian at age 32. She went on to become a reporter and investigator. In spite of her family declaring her dead, she managed to get a divorce, win full custody of her two daughters and get a final restraining order against her ex-husband.

Reiss founded Unchained At Last to help women and girls who want to flee from or resist forced marriages.

The program, presented jointly by the congregation’s Men’s Club and Sisterhood, and sponsored by the Herman and Freida Lipp Memorial Fund in memory of Barbara Lipp, will include a free bagel breakfast, which begins at 10 a.m.

Reservations are not necessary.
