COLTS NECK – Residents of Colts Neck may be asked to approve a referendum later this year regarding proposed improvements in the Colts Neck K-8 School District.

No estimate concerning the cost of any work to be performed has been determined at this time.

In a resolution, the Board of Education said the referendum may propose “renovations, upgrades and site improvements at various schools, and the expansion of the Cedar Drive Middle School.”

“We are looking to make improvements to our overall infrastructure,” Superintendent of Schools MaryJane Garibay said. “Areas identified for improvement will fall into the categories of health and safety, security, and environmental mechanisms.”

Garibay said the addition of an auditorium at the middle school may be included in the referendum. She said no decision regarding any aspect of the possible work to be performed has been settled upon.

The board has approved the preparation of schematic plans and educational specifications by the architectural firm of Fraytak Veisz Hopkins Duthie.

Board members authorized the firm to submit the plans to the New Jersey Department of Education and to the Monmouth County Superintendent of Schools for review and approval, and to the Colts Neck Planning Board for its review.

Oct. 2 has been designated as the date when projects authorized by the board may be presented to the public in a referendum. The district operates the Conover Road Primary School, the Conover Road Elementary School and the Cedar Drive Middle School.
