Virginia Lagdameo spent just two seasons on the Edison High School girls’ basketball team, but she will long cherish those years.

Lagdameo transferred from another school based in Edison, Bishop George Ahr High School, just before her junior year.

“I’m a transfer, so I haven’t gotten to spend as much time with these girls as I would have loved to,” she said. “But in the time that I have been with them, it’s been fun. We’ve won and lost many games, but there’s no one that I would rather lose with. These girls have taught me so much. They taught me how to be a family. They taught me how to communicate better. My communication has never been better. They pushed me to my best. This is my family. I’m going to remember these girls for the rest of my life, and I’m going to move forward in life because of them.”

Edison’s season — and Lagdameo career at the school — came to a close when the Eagles lost to Middletown High School South, 58-46, in the opening round of the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 4 tournament on Feb. 27 in Middletown.

Junior Samira Sargent led Edison with 16 points and six rebounds, while Lagdameo finished with three points.

Edison finished the season with a 14-13 record.

Lagdameo praised the Eagles’ growth over the year, which featured an appearance in the championship game of the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament. Edison was defeated by Piscataway Township High School, 51-37, in the final, which was played on Feb. 22 at the Rutgers Athletic Center in Piscataway.

“We definitely grew as a team,” Lagdameo said. “Even from the GMC to now, we proved that we’re a great team. If we put our mind to it, there’s so many possibilities for us. I know we lost tonight, but next year, they should be good. They’re going to fight hard and keep going even without me.”

Although she will not be playing sports in college, Lagdameo plans to attend William Paterson University.
