NORTH BRUNSWICK – Families were invited to play math games, participate in problem-solving challenges, and use the computer lab to access online math games at stations led by teacher volunteers during Parsons Elementary School’s Family Math Night.

Students in kindergarten through fifth grade took on the Estimation Station on Feb. 8 to determine how many candies were in each of the containers. Winning students took home the container of candy as well as a board game they could play with their families, according to information provided by math coach Beth Yuhas.

At the Online Math Station, families accessed the Parsons Technology Page where they could choose from games listed by grade level. Students also played online versions of games they play in class to practice their math facts and concepts, according to the statement.

At the Challenge Math Station, families could try three problems and work to solve them together using cards, drawings or other materials. Families shared their solutions and were able to see new ways to tackle challenges, according to the statement.

At the Math Games Station, families played games to practice and improve math fact fluency, place value and other math concepts. Students were given their own game guides and a deck of cards so that they could continue the fun and learning at home, according to the statement.

The school provided juice and cookies, along with a resource guide to assist parents in helping their children with math at home using everyday activities and objects such as coins, clocks and calendars, according to the statement.
