MARLBORO – Municipal officials are asking residents to participate in the “See Something, Say Something, We Will Do Something” campaign regarding reporting suspicious activity in Marlboro.
“We are asking residents to be an active partner in the safety of our schools,” Mayor Jonathan Hornik said. “If you see something on social media, hear something, see something out of place, or someone’s behavior doesn’t seem quite right, make that call.
“The citizen reporting initiative encourages citizens to be additional eyes and ears in our multi-pronged approach to school security. We ask that (people) make the report, even anonymously, to authorities.
“We would rather have (a report) be deemed not credible than to never receive the report,” the mayor said. “Together, working as a team, we will be an important part of keeping our children and educators safe.”
Officials said the township, in cooperation with all Marlboro schools, has ongoing safety measures in place. Each school has a full-time security monitor who is either a retired law enforcement officer or a former member of the military. Surveillance cameras are used and each school has received a security upgrade, according to a press release.
Officials said additional measures are in place, but will not be discussed publicly so as not to compromise security.
“In response to the recent tragedies occurring across the United States, the Marlboro Police Department is empowering our residents and visitors to report suspicious activity in and around our community,” Police Chief Bruce Hall said. “The reporting of suspicious activity is an important component for law enforcement in the fight against preventing tragedies in and around our community.”

Residents are asked not to report emergencies on social media, as Marlboro’s social media accounts are not monitored 24 hours a day, according to the press release.
