Young wrestler honored with North Brunswick Scholar Athlete award

The 2018 NJSIAA Region 6 Wrestling Tournament that took place at Brick Memorial High School on Feb 24.

NORTH BRUNSWICK – Wrestling referee and town Councilman Carlo Socio read a proclamation for young wrestler Ryan Farley during his receipt of the North Brunswick Scholar/Athlete/Artist award for March.

Ryan is a sixth grader at Linwood Middle School and is a Distinguished High Honor Roll student with an A+ average, and maintains a perfect attendance, according to his proclamation read during the March 5 council meeting.

Ryan started wrestling in 2013 with the North Brunswick MatRaiders through the North Brunswick Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services. This season was his last season with the MatRaiders, and his overall record was 15-3, according to the proclamation.

He continues to wrestle for Linwood where he received first place at the Greater Middlesex Conferenc’s Middle School Tournament for his weight class. His overall record this season was 4-1. The team went on to have the first undefeated season ever at Linwood, according to the proclamation.

Ryan is a member of CJA Wrestling Club and works on his strength and conditioning at the House of Pain, according to the proclamation.

Ryan has played other sports in North Brunswick, including baseball, basketball and football.

He continues to play the violin at Linwood which he began four years ago at Judd Elementary School, according to the proclamation.

Ryan is the youngest member of the Tri-County Radio Control Club/AMA District II located at Pulda Farm. The group is a radio-controlled model airplane club which encourages and promotes the sport and hobby of flying R/C models, according to the proclamation.

He has volunteered at Our Lady of Peace Church and for the North Brunswick Township High School Raider Robotix team.
