The Arc of Monmouth to hold annual Walk/5k April 28

The Arc of Monmouth will sponsor its annual “Step Up For The Arc” Walk and 5k at the Asbury Park Boardwalk on April 28.

The event, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., will begin with a 5k, followed by a ceremony for runners. The walk will immediately begin after awards are given out to participants.

All proceeds from the day will directly benefit the 1,600 individuals of the organization living with intellectual and developmental disabilities, according to a statement from The Arc of Monmouth.

According to the organization’s website, The Arc of Monmouth’s mission is to “improve the lives of persons with I/DD and their families through advocacy, services and supports, collaboration with community partners, and community education.”

Last year, more than 500 runners, walkers, and fundraisers raised over $50,000 for members of the The Arc of Monmouth according to director of development Jan Connolly.

“Aside from a beautiful walk or run along the boardwalks in Asbury Park, Ocean Grove and Bradley Beach, it is a wonderful day of community inclusion,” said Connolly. “So many of our participants and their families take part in the event.”

An after party will be held in Convention Hall and will feature live music, food and carnival games.

Registration fees are $25 for adults and $10 for children.

“We are grateful for the support and participation from the shore community and throughout New Jersey,” said Connolly.
