Bayonne woman sentenced to 15 years in prison for fatal stabbing in Woodbridge in 2016

A 33-year-old Bayonne woman has been sentenced to serve 15 years in a New Jersey state prison for fatally stabbing another Bayonne resident in Woodbridge.

Amarlis Calderon was ordered to serve 85 percent of her prison term before becoming eligible for parole for killing Pablo Caamano, 34, on July 18, 2016, according to information provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey. The sentence was imposed in New Brunswick before Superior Court Judge Pedro Jimenez, Jr. on March 23.

Calderon pleaded guilty on Jan. 8 to aggravated manslaughter. The plea was entered before Jimenez after the defendant reached an agreement with Assistant Middlesex County Prosecutor Dimitri Teresh and Assistant Middlesex County Prosecutor Eric Snyder, according to the statement.

An investigation by Sgt. Frank Robina of the New Jersey State Police and Detective Craig Marchak of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that Calderon, who was walking on Randolph Avenue in Woodbridge, stabbed Caamano when he drove by and stopped to pick her up. The couple knew each other, officials said.

Calderon then got into the vehicle and the couple headed toward Interchange 12 on the New Jersey Turnpike, where they pulled to the side of the road, according to the statement.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The New Jersey State Police initially were alerted on July 18, 2016, at 3:20 a.m. and responded along with members of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, officials said.
