SAYREVILLE – An annual benefit concert for those fighting cancer will be held on April 21 to assist a Sayreville resident and a South Amboy resident.
The fifth annual Jammin for Jaclyn concert will take place at the Knights of Columbus Council 2061, 775 Washington Road, Sayreville, from 3:30 p.m. to midnight. The venue’s bar will be open until 2 a.m, along with deejay music. Admission is a minimum $25 donation and only adults are permitted to attend.
“The event is a huge party, giving the beneficiaries both financial and emotional support,” organization co-founder Denise Morgan said.
According to Morgan, the two beneficiaries for this year are Chris Szatkowski of South Amboy and Katya Hernandez of Sayreville. Szatkowski is battling stage IV colon cancer with metastatic disease and is undergoing chemotherapy. Hernandez is battling stage 2B breast cancer and, having completed chemotherapy, will be starting proton therapy.
There will be 12 live bands and musical artists. The artists featured at this year’s concert, according to Morgan, are Series of Shocks, John Walsh, Amber Morgan, Patsy Palma, Jake Tavill & the ICBB, the FOG, Rocco & the MOB, The Nick Ryan Band, Taylor Tote Band, Xol Azule Band and Michael Squillance Music.
Morgan said there will be a free hot and cold buffet from more than 60 eateries throughout the state, with vegan options. Also at the event will be 50/50 door prizes valued from $100-$1,000, a photo booth and a cash bar.
Individuals may also join a contest to win a wine cooler with a retail value of $150 at the organization’s Facebook page, facebook.com/jamminforjacyln.
Jammin for Jaclyn was founded after Ron and Denise Morgan’s daughter Jaclyn Squillace was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer at the age of 26. As their son Michael is a saxophonist and their daughter Amber, who will be performing at this year’s event, is a singer, the Morgans said they decided to run a benefit concert and subsequently ran a second due to the success of the first. Squillace is still battling cancer and although had been in remission for several years, cancer was found again this year and metastasized.
