Horses leave the gate of race 10, The Molly Pitcher, during the 50th running of the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport on Jul 30. This year's race ended in a trilling photofinish with "Girvin" edging out "McCracken".

The Calvary Baptist Church in Oceanport will hold its annual “Moose On The Loose” Vacation Bible School in July.

The event will run from July 23-27 and will start at 6 p.m. and be held until 8:30 p.m.

All children between the ages of 4 and 13 are invited to the attend the free program that will be held at the church that is located at 1305 Eatontown Blvd.

Janet Emma, co-director of the Christian-based program, said the camp strives to instill Biblical truths in enjoyable and engaging ways. This year’s theme will center around the summer camp experience, complete with tents, campfires and outdoor activities.

Children who attend the week-long program will learn one of Christianity’s fundamental certainties over five days – forever forgiveness, Emma said.

She added that in accordance with scripture, forever forgiveness is the realization God will pardon any sin an individual may make in his or her lifetime. Although this was said to be a challenging notion to instill upon youth, Emma said the children will learn forgiveness through art, music, Bible study, snacks and prizes.

“I want the children to learn that Christianity can be fun. Ultimately, I want them to know that God is love,” Emma said.

Children who attend the program will study scripture each day, emphasizing key biblical passages that will help shape their views of the Christian faith.

Emma reinstated the goal of the summer program is to present children with the initial concept of Christ.

“God gave us free will. It is not our job to make a child believe. It is only our job to present Jesus to the children. Later in life, they are going to make that choice,” she said. ”Right now, we are just planting the seeds. Then, someone else will come and water those seeds. One day, all of this will make sense. Raise up a child in the way he should go. When he is old, he will not depart from it.”
