Middlesex County College to hold symposium on philosophy on April 19

Middlesex County College will hold a symposium on philosophical subjects from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 19 in the College Center, 2600 Woodbridge Ave., Edison.

The program features four panel discussions: literature, mythology and metaphors; a three-student panel discussing the oppression of women in video games, the root of philosophy and the lack of realization; the relationship between history and philosophy in the Irish and African races in the 19th century, the case of a slave catcher and epistemic differences in history and philosophy; and philosophy and art.

The program will conclude with a viewing and discussion of “Se7en,” a film about two homicide detectives in a desperate hunt for a serial killer who justifies his crimes as absolution for the world’s ignorance of the seven deadly sins.

Participants can select the areas in which they are interested; they do not have to attend the entire event.

MCC started a student-led Philosophy Club two years ago. Several students and faculty from other colleges and universities in New Jersey are expected to attend, as well as the Philosophy Club from Edison High School.
