Millstone calls on volunteers to assist with annual stream cleanup

MILLSTONE – The organizers of Millstone Township’s 12th annual stream cleanup are seeking volunteers who want to help keep their community beautiful.

The stream cleanup is sponsored by the Millstone Township Environmental Commission and the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association and will be held from 9 a.m. to noon April 14.

Doug Lischick, vice chairman of the Millstone Township Environmental Commission, said volunteers should meet in the parking lot behind the municipal court building, 215 Millstone Road. Groups of volunteers will be sent to locations around town to clean lakes, streams, ponds and other areas by collecting trash and debris.

All residents are welcome to volunteer for the cleanup, according to Lischick. Groups comprised of more than 10 volunteers must register before the event by contacting eneidergang@thewatershed.org

Volunteers are advised to wear long pants and boots, and to bring water and work gloves. Snow shovels may be needed. Children who take part in the cleanup must be accompanied by an adult. A T-shirt and light refreshments will be provided to volunteers. The cleanup will provide community service hours to students, according to Lischick.

“This annual event is an opportunity for residents, friends and neighbors to get together and support a good cause by helping to clean up the township,” Lischick said.
