South Amboy golf outing supports American Legion Post 62

SOUTH AMBOY – American Legion Post 62 of South Amboy suffered extensive damage during superstorm Sandy in 2012.

More than five years later, members of the post continue to hold fund raisers, including the upcoming second annual golf tournament on April 28 at Bunker Hill Golf Course, 220 Bunker Hill Road, Princeton.

American Legion Co-Chairman Mickey Gross said the building needs to be torn down and rebuilt to code, which requires at least $100,000 more than what has already been raised.

“Our veterans have always been there for us,” Gross said. “It is our time to help them. We ask everybody to join us and play golf for our veterans.”

The registration fee for “Raise the Roof for our Vets” is $125 per golfer, which includes dinner catered by Outback Steakhouse of Edison. Patrons can pay $60 to attend the dinner only.

Golfers can register as an individual or as a team of four. Awards will be given to best team totals, closest to the pin and longest drive for male and female golfers. The hole-in-one prize is a new car, courtesy of Sansone Auto Group.

Registration on the day of the tournament begins at 6:30 a.m., followed by a scramble format beginning at 8 a.m.

Lunch will be available at the 10th tee throughout the day and will include hot dogs, hamburgers, snacks and beverages.

Sponsored signs will be posted on the golf course and during the dinner. Sponsorships include $10,000 golf sponsors, $5,000 golf cart sponsors, $2,500 lunch sponsors, $2,000 beverage sponsors, $500 gold hold sponsors, $250 silver hole sponsors and $100 bronze hole sponsors.

All donations and reservations are requested by April 15.
