Count Basie announces first Basie Mariachi Festival May 4

The first annual Basie Mariachi Festival will take place at Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank on May 4.

The celebration, in honor of Cinco de Mayo, will begin at 7:30 p.m.

According to a press release, the festival will feature Latin Grammy nominee Mariachi Flor de Toloache, Mexico natives, the Villalobos Brothers and the Calpulli Mexican Dance Company.

“Mariachi music is the heart and soul of Mexican culture and tradition. The Basie is part of a community rich in Hispanic heritage and our Mariachi Festival will be a celebration of the diversity of our region,” President and CEO Adam Philipson said in a press release.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased through the Count Basie Theatre website.

“We are excited to join forces with the historic Count Basie Theatre in this authentic celebration of Mexican culture in the city of Red Bank and we are looking forward to meeting many new friends there,” said one-third of the Villalobos Brothers, Alberto Villalobos.
