EAST BRUNSWICK – The East Brunswick Library will sponsor its second “Reading to Action” project on April 21-22 and April 24-25.
“Reading to Action” encourages library patrons to be more active in the community. This year’s theme is animals. The library will present programs for animal lovers of all ages with topics ranging from animal psychology to pet therapy to other service-related activities, according to a statement provided by the library.
All programs are free and open to the public.
The Furry Angels Therapy Dogs will visit the library for two programs on April 21. Young readers from kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to read a story to the therapy dogs. At 11:45 a.m., representatives of the organization will explain what therapy dogs do, how they are trained and if a dog might qualify to be trained as a therapy dog. The 11:45 a.m. program is for adults.
The library will hold a Pet Café from 1-3:30 p.m. on April 22. Families may stop by the library to meet animals that are looking for a permanent home, and learn about the adoption process.
Members of the library’s book discussion group will meet at 7 p.m. on April 24 to discuss “Animal Wise: How Animals Think and Feel” by Virginia Morell.
There will be a special knitting and crocheting event at 7 p.m. on April 24. Participants will make blankets for kittens and cats at the New Beginnings Animal Rescue of East Brunswick. This program is for adults and teenagers.
Sal Curcurato, a pet trainer with Paws for Applause, will discuss the importance of early puppy socialization and the responsibilities of dog ownership during a program at 7 p.m. on April 25.
