Police departments work together to locate Wawa armed robbery suspect

NORTH BRUNSWICK – Police apprehended a suspect who allegedly robbed the Wawa store on Route 27 and Cozzens Lane.

Patrol units received a report of an armed robbery around 1:15 a.m. on April 2, according to information provided by the North Brunswick Police Department.

Upon the arrival of the police, units learned that a male subject had walked in and allegedly began stealing several items from throughout the store. Once confronted by employees, the suspect allegedly brandished a handgun and continued to take additional items, according to police.

The suspect left the store on foot, allegedly firing at least two shots from the handgun outside during his escape, police said.

Officers and detectives developed a person of interest. Later that day, a 33-year-old male from Somerset was charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and theft. He had been remanded to the Middlesex County Department of Corrections pending court.

There were no injuries reported during the incident, police said.

The Franklin Township Police Department, Somerset County and the Bound Brook Police Department assisted with the investigation.
