This girls’ basketball season will be long remembered at Allentown High School.

The Redbirds enjoyed a winter that saw them soar to a 24-4 record — the most victories the program achieved in one season — and a berth in the Central Jersey, Group 3 state sectional tournament championship game.

A major highlight also centered around the team’s top player, senior guard Ryan Weise, who broke the school scoring record for career points for both boys and girls.

Weise, whose mother, Linda Weise, is the head coach of the team, broke the previous record of 1,449 points, which was held by Gregg Anacker, in January.

Allentown’s memorable season also featured the play of junior Lauren Coiante, seniors Katie White and Marin Hartshon and freshman Maddie McCrea.

The future looks bright with the return of Coiante and McCrea.

Allentown’s season came to an end when the Redbirds fell to Ewing High School, 67-57, in the Central Jersey, Group 3 tournament final.

Ewing, which had defeated Allentown, 52-41, on Jan. 19, was the top seed in the section, while the Redbirds were the No. 2 seed.

Allentown launched its run to a state sectional title game when the Redbirds knocked out  Pennsauken High School, 71-35, in the first round on Feb. 26.

The Redbirds then defeated seventh-seeded Burlington County Institute of Technology Westampton Campus, 83-47, in the quarterfinals on Feb. 28 to set up their semifinals matchup with third-seeded Steinert High School on March 2.

In that sectional semifinal, Allentown cruised to a 64-30 victory to set up its game with Ewing on March 5.
