Red Bank won 12 games and qualified for the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 state sectional tournament in 2017.

But coach Brook Connell of Red Bank will rely on a slew of newcomers this spring.

“Honestly, we lost a lot of girls last year,” Connell said. “This year, we’ve been looking to rebuild and see new leaders on the team this year. A lot of girls have stepped up, so it’s looking good so far.”

One player who has stepped up and is expected to be a major contributor is junior midfielder Meghan Murray.

Murray felt that the first crucial step is for the team to become accustomed to each other.

“We’re just trying to get used to all the new people on the field,” Murray said. “We’re still figuring out everyone’s strengths and weaknesses and stuff like that. Once we all get on the same page, this will be a fun season.”

Connell and Murray believed that Red Bank’s ability to master the skills of the game will be a key factor during this rebuilding campaign.

“Our main thing is just focusing on the fundamentals,” Connell said. “The throwing. The catching. If we can get it all down, big things will happen this year I think.”

“Yeah, the fundamentals will be huge for us,” Murray said. “Making sure to keep moving, and to keep everyone involved on offense.”

Red Bank will also call on seniors Maggie Davis and Molly O’Mara, as well as the Kelly sisters, Claudia, a sophomore, and Madeline, a freshman.

The Bucs were scheduled to begin their season on April 3 with a game at Middletown High School South.
