ALLENTOWN – The Borough Council has awarded a contract to Manor II Electric Inc., Holmdel, for the replacement of an emergency generator at the borough’s waste water treatment plant.
Officials said 11 firms obtained plans and specifications for the work and 10 contractors submitted bids in March. The project was estimated to cost $299,500 and Manor II Electric submitted the low bid amount of $190,000.
In a resolution the council passed on April 10, officials said the borough engineer found all of the company’s documents to be in order. In addition, the borough engineer contacted the references provided by the contractor and received favorable responses.
Allentown has received a Hazard Mitigation Grant Program grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the amount of $284,367 and requires a 10 percent match from the borough, according to the resolution.
The contract was awarded to Manor II Electric in a unanimous vote from council President Thomas Fritts, Councilman John A. Elder III, Councilwoman Angela Anthony, Councilman Rob Schmitt, Councilwoman Johnna Stinemire and Councilman Robert Strovinsky.
In other action, the council awarded a waste water treatment plant sludge removal contract to Accurate Waste Removal Services Inc., Flanders. The contract is for the removal, transportation, delivery and disposal of liquid sludge from the borough’s waste water treatment plant.
Officials said three vendors submitted bids and Accurate Waste Removal Services was the low bidder for a one-year, two-year or three-year contract option. The borough engineer found all of the firm’s documents to be in order. In addition, the borough engineer contacted the references provided by the contractor and received favorable responses.
The council awarded Accurate Waste Removal Services a three-year contract at a unit cost of 8.95 cents per gallon and a total cost of $411,700. The initial payment will not exceed $105,000, according to the resolution. Elder, Anthony, Schmitt, Stinemire, Strovinsky and Fritts voted to award the contract.
