The weather is warming up as is the boys’ track and field team at North Brunswick Township High School.

The cold and damp spring has not

“We just had a couple of personal records,” North Brunswick coach Danae Wise said while the cold and damp April has not provided much in the way of brilliant efforts from his team.

And Wise was not surprised that it was a quiet start to the season.

“It’s cold. I wasn’t expecting much,” Wise said. “Overall, we’ve been good so far. I’m looking for more from [sophomore Myles Bailey] but we’re getting there.”

“I saw us working hard,” Bailey added. “We had to fight through the cold. But, we’re going to get there.”

Bailey is now focusing on being a standout on the track after he starred as a running back for North Brunswick this past fall.

Bailey finished with 1,492 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns in 2017 for the Raiders.

He’s now trying to figure out his full potential in both the triple jump and the long jump.

And Wise plans to make sure that he sees it through.

“I just want [Bailey] to jump and run to his full potential,” Wise said. “He’s getting better, but we know he can be even better.”

“I just want to gain full board,” Bailey said. “I’ve been lacking with that so far, but it’s going to come. Hopefully soon.”

Wise had a lot of praise for his teammates on the team, especially the sophomore class.

“Our entire sophomore crew are ones to look out for,” Wise said. “Bailey included in that. So far, Ramy [Berberena] has gone under 58 seconds and he’s hit a 49 split in the 400’s. Amad [Kargvo] is also a great sophomore for us. Two years from now, they’re going to be contenders.”

Berberena runs the 400 hurdles, the 110 hurdles and the 800 meters. Kargvo runs the 400 hurdles, the 110 shuttle relay and is involved in the sometimes the 4 X 400 relay.
