Officials believe man killed son, then himself, in Edison

 

EDISON – Police are investigating a shooting in which an Edison man apparently shot and killed his son, and then killed himself.

Jeremy Larence, 39, of Loeb Court, Edison, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:46 p.m. on April 22. He apparently was fatally shot by his father inside their residence, according to a joint statement provided by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Thomas Bryan of the Edison Police Department.

Also pronounced dead at the scene was, Gerald Larence, 71, who apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to officials.

The investigation by Detective Joseph Kenny of the Edison Police Department and Detective Craig Marchak of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that Gerald Larence allegedly shot and killed his son before shooting himself, according to the statement. The handgun was recovered from the scene.

Police responded to the residence after receiving a call from a concerned family member, officials said.

Autopsies performed today by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Jeremy Larence died from a gunshot wound to the head, manner of death homicide, and Gerald Larence died from a gunshot wound to the head, manner of death suicide, according to the statement.
