Temple Emanu-El announces programs for Passover

Temple Emanu-El will hold a series of events for the community during March at the temple, 100 James St., Edison.

During the Purim Carnival on March 4, the Purim song session begins at 10:50 a.m., followed by the carnival from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All who come in costume will receive a prize. Bring a canned or boxed food for the food pantry.) The carnival will open from 10:30-10:50 a.m. for families with children whose needs are met through a quieter and line-free environment.

“Shabbat ALIVE!,” a joyous and participatory musical Shabbat service with a three-piece band, will take place at 7 p.m. March 9.

Learn new recipes for the upcoming Passover holiday, such as matzah lasagna, Kugel and kosher for Passover chocolate chip cookies, during a cooking class on March 17. The class is hands-on and appropriate for all ages. A tasting and light kiddush lunch is included. Shabbat Services start at 10 a.m., followed by the cooking class from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program is open to the community, but a suggested donation ranges $5-$25 per person.

A rummage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on March 18. Donations of new or lightly used clothing and accessories are being accepted.

School House Rock, Jr. is an interfaith partnership with Temple Emanu-El in Edison and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Metuchen. The performance will take place at St. Luke’s, 12 Oak Ave., Metuchen, beginning at 4 p.m. Tickets are available for $5 per person at the door.

“TOT Shabbat!,” an age-appropriate Friday evening Shabbat program for younger children up to six years old, which also includes a Jewish-themed art/craft session, begins at 6 p.m. on March 23.

The Second Seder Night for Community will include a Passover dinner, complete with holiday song and story, on March 31. Call for prices. RSVP is required by calling 732-549-4442.

Prospective members who attend any service or event at Temple Emanu-El can enter into a raffle for 12 months of free membership. One entry per family can be made for each event attended. Every month, one free membership will be given away. The year of free membership will begin on the first of the month following the raffle draw. Contact the temple for details and restrictions.
