On April 29, Princeton will have additional transportation and parking options, including bicycle parking, for visitors to Communiversity ArtsFest, a street fair that annually attracts tens of thousands of people to the municipality.
Communiversity ArtsFest, a local tradition that dates to the 1970s, is scheduled to take place downtown from 1-6 p.m., rain or shine.
From 12:30-6:30 p.m., a free shuttle bus will stop at the Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad on North Harrison Street, the parking lot of the Witherspoon Hall municipal building on Witherspoon Street, and at the corner of Witherspoon and Wiggins streets, Mayor Liz Lempert said.
Lempert recommended that visitors park “remotely.” Visitors may leave their vehicle in the parking lot of the municipal building when catching the shuttle or at the Princeton Shopping Center on North Harrison Street and then meet the shuttle bus at the first aid squad building, she said.
Police Lt. Christopher Morgan said, “We encourage people to walk if you can. Parking is difficult. We understand that.”
Other parking options include the West Garage, on the Princeton University campus, near the Princeton train station, at a parking lot behind 185 Nassau St. and in the university’s North Garage off Prospect Avenue.
For the first time, parking will be provided for bicycles. A valet system will be available on the lawn of the local nonprofit organization HiTops on Wiggins Street, the mayor said.
Overnight parking in the fair area will be prohibited from April 28 into April 29. The area will be closed to regular traffic early on April 29, police said.
As to security, Morgan said, “Every year, we review our security plan for the event. We make any modifications we feel are necessary going forward. We are going to take all appropriate measures to take into account recent events.”
