First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen opens garden for the season

METUCHEN – The First Presbyterian Church (FPC) of Metuchen officially opened its Community Garden on April 22 behind its Social Center, located at 270 Woodbridge Ave. in Metuchen.

THE Rev. Justin D. Karmann, temporary associate pastor of FPC, began the ceremony with A prayer and welcome comments. Metuchen Mayor Jonathan Busch spoke and participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the garden, according to information provided by FPC.

FPC’s Community Garden Committee, headed by Thomas Yakowenko and Lindy Rutter, and Eagle Scout Diego Lijeron also spoke at the gathering.

FPC created the community garden to give Metuchen residents a place to experience gardening and the great outdoors, according to the statement.

FPC’s Community Garden consists of 16 plots residents can rent for a season to grow a variety of plants or flowers. Currently, all plots have been reserved.
