HOWELL – Public hearings have been scheduled for the May 15 meeting of the Howell Township Council on ordinances that will finance the construction of sanitary sewer mains.
On April 17, Mayor Theresa Berger, Deputy Mayor Robert Nicastro, Councilman Bob Walsh and Councilwoman Evelyn O’Donnell voted to introduce the two ordinances. Councilwoman Pauline Smith was absent.
The first ordinance authorizes the construction of sanitary sewer mains and laterals, and related expenses, to serve properties in the Freewood Acres section of the township. The section of Freewood Acres will be on the easterly (northbound) and westerly (southbound) sides of Route 9 between Interstate 195 and Sunnyside Road. The ordinance appropriates $9.26 million for the work and states that $8.8 million will be issued in bonds or notes to finance the project.
The second ordinance authorizes the construction of sanitary sewer mains and laterals, and related expenses, to serve properties on Route 9 northbound between West Farms Road and Casino Drive. The ordinance appropriates $3.45 million for the work, including $172,710 as the down payment, with the remainder to be issued in bonds or notes.
In other business, council members authorized the public sale of a 1.55-acre property that is owned by Howell and is not required for public purposes. The land is at 198 Squankum Yellowbrook Road and the minimum price for all bids is $235,000.
