The Monmouth County Historical Association (MCHS) will sponsor its third annual “Daffodils & Daiquiris” event on May 4 at the Taylor-Butler House in Middletown.

The historical association, which is located in Freehold, is an organization dedicated to preserving Monmouth County history, according to Director of Development and Communications Lisa Maher.

The free event, which runs from 6 to 8 p.m., will commence this year’s “Weekend at Old Monmouth” celebration, according to Maher.

Weekend at Old Monmouth is a county-wide event during which historic houses and museums are free and open to the public, Maher said.

“We use this weekend as an opportunity to welcome the community and welcome the open season. We want to start the weekend on a really positive note,” Maher said.

The Taylor-Butler House is located at 127 Kings Highway.

Maher said attendees can expect to enjoy drinks and hors d’oeuvres while they tour the grand Taylor-Butler campus, which was established in 1893.

“There’s so much history in Monmouth County. We (the MCHS) are almost 120 years old. We have been collecting people’s histories for that long. It’s amazing to see,” Maher said.

Maher said those in attendance will be able to view the art that is on display at the Taylor-Butler House. She said the current exhibition features a collection of oil paintings that depict Monmouth County residents, who lived hundreds of years ago.

“We get to travel back in time and see what life [was] like,” Maher said.

According to Maher, Monmouth County holds a special significance in United States history.

“Our mission is to preserve, protect and share Monmouth County’s history with as many people as possible,” Mayer said.

The non-profit organization owns four other Historic House Museums throughout Monmouth County. The museums are the Allen House, Shrewsbury; the Covenhoven House, Freehold; the Holmes-Hendrickson House, Holmdel; and the Marlpit House, Middletown.

Maher said the Taylor-Butler House, in particular, is especially grand.

“The Taylor-Butler Home fits the theme (Daffodils & Daiquiris) nicely. This is a beautiful home,” Maher said.
