Twenty-one new citizens naturalized at Sayreville Library

The Sayreville Public Library sponsored its third annual U.S. Naturalization Ceremony on April 10, where 21 residents of nine counties received their citizenship.

SAYREVILLE – The Sayreville Public Library sponsored its third annual U.S. Naturalization Ceremony on April 10 with the participation of several local and state dignitaries.

Kenneth P. Kelly, Sr., chief of staff of the Sayreville Mayor’s Office, welcomed 21 candidates from nine countries. Master of Ceremonies John E. Thompson, Newark District director, represented U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services along with Paul Correia, Newark field office director, who administered the oath of citizenship.

Congratulatory remarks from President Donald J. Trump were shared through a video presentation while former Assemblyman John S. Wisniewski, a Sayreville native, presented the keynote address.

The ceremony also included the Presentation of Colors by Sayreville’s American Legion Color Guard and VFW Post 4699, and the leading of the Pledge of Allegiance by representatives from local boy and girl scout troops. Judy Gary, music director at St. Bernadette’s Church in Parlin, sang the National Anthem.

Each new citizen received a certificate and a gift bag, courtesy of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The ceremony concluded with remarks by Leah Kloc, director of the Sayreville Public Library.
